Thomas has been found dead and authorities said that he have killed himself and he was in despair over the fallout from the coronavirus crisis.

He was 54 years old during his time of death and state governor Volker Bouffier linked Schaefer’s death to the virus crisis on Sunday, he said: “whether it would be possible to succeed in fulfilling the population’s huge expectations, particularly of financial help.”

“I have to assume that these worries overwhelmed him,” Bouffier said. “He apparently couldn’t find a way out. He was in despair and left us.” His body was found on a high-speed train line in the town of Hochheim between Frankfurt and Mainz, as of March 29th Germany has reported over 57,600 confirmed cases of coronavirus and at least 433 fatalities.

From 2010 to 2020, he was serving as the Minister of Finance of Hesse and he started his career as a Lawyer for the Commerzbank in Frankfurt am Main and he joined the Junge Union in 1980, from 1985 to 1999 he was a board member. Later, from 2005 to 2009 he was secretary of state for Jürgen Banzer, minister of work, family, and health.

Then, he worked as the secretary of state for Karlheinz Weimar in 2009. In August 2010, Schäfer became the state minister of finance under Hesse´s new Minister-president Volker Bouffier. Since 2014, he was a member of the Hessischer Landtag, the state parliament.
