Randi Chaverria is 36 years old and was a former “Teacher of the Year” in Williamson County, Texas has been charged with having an illegal sexual interaction with a student. She was a teacher at Round Rock High School in Texas.
She has resigned from her post after the allegations came to light and police have said that text messages between the pair support the claims. According to the pupil, Chaverria performed oral sex on him twice in his classroom in October, according to an affidavit obtained by KVUE-TV.
She has now been charged with conducting an improper relationship with a student. She is ‘not permitted to return to the campus’ according to the school’s principal Matt Groff, and she had ‘elected to take leave’ before the allegations surfaced.
Randi was arrested on Tuesday on a charge of improper relationship between educator and student, according to court records viewed by Law&Crime. The defendant posted bond on Tuesday of $25,000. No attorney of record is named.
Officials with the Round Rock Independent School District said the defendant was already on leave as of November 18. This was a week before the allegation became public. Chaverria resigned on the 19th, the school district said. Officials said this alleged relationship was reported to the human resources and the State Board for Educator Certification, Reports LawandCrime.
The student confirmed to police that those incidents occurred in mid-October. He also showed investigators text messages the two had exchanged throughout the relationship. He told police that she would call him to meet up for sexual encounters.
