According to the U.S. official, an investigation of whether the shooting activity is terrorism-related. Regarding this incident, President Donald Trump tweeted Friday afternoon that he had heard from the Saudi monarch.
“King Salman of Saudi Arabia just called to express his sincere condolences and give his sympathies to the families and friends” of the victims, Trump wrote. He added that the king said, “this person in no way shape or form represents the feelings of the Saudi people who love the American people.”
Jason Bortz, a public affairs officer for the station, also confirmed to NBC News that the base was placed on lockdown. They started receiving calls at 6:30 a.m. and local authorities and military police responded.
NAS Pensacola employs more than 16,000 militaries and 7,400 civilian personnel, according to its website. One of the Navy’s most historic and storied bases, it sprawls along the waterfront southwest of downtown Pensacola and dominates the economy of the surrounding area.

Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz, who represents the district where NAS Pensacola is located, has called for the shooting to be investigated as an act of terror. In an Interview with CNN, he said: “We can safely call this an act of terrorism, not an act of workplace violence.”
