Later, he earned his Juris Doctor Degree from Fordham University School of Law in 1978. Jerry worked as Legal Assistant and Clerk in 1970 at Corporation Trust Company.

Additionally, he also worked at Levin, Shein law firm and Morris and in 1972 he became the Legislative Assistant in the New York Assembly. In fact, he was first elected to the New York Assembly while completing his J.D Degree at the Fordham University.

In 1976, Jerry became the Law Clerk with Foley, Morgan, and Finnegan. Earlier, he also worked as a shift manager at the New York City of-Track Betting Corporation. In 1989, he also ran for New York City Comptroller but he lsot to Elizabeth Holtzman.

This politician also supports same-sex marriage and anti-discrimination protection. On September 15, 2009, he added the Respect for Marriage Act along with two other Representative. Apart from this Jerry founded the Assembly Subcommittee on Mass transit and Rail Freight.
