Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot on Friday morning in Nara, Japan, and is currently receiving medical care.

Fumio Kishida, the prime minister, stated. He was shot in the neck, according to the authorities.

Video of the incident, which occurred as Abe was delivering a speech for an election, shows two shots being fired.

On suspicion of attempted murder, police detained a guy in his 40s and found what seemed to be a handmade pistol.

The longest-serving prime minister of Japan in history is Abe. In 2020, he announced his resignation as leader, citing health issues.
