James Caan, who had a long and fruitful career in Hollywood, passed yesterday at the age of 82.

When he was chosen to play Sonny in The Godfather, he received his breakthrough role in 1972.

The movie star was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar, both for Best Supporting Actor. 

James spent decades acting in popular films including "Misery" and "Dick Tracy."

James battled several issues with his physical and emotional health.

James was brought to the hospital in 2015 because of severe chest pain.
