Robert was a student at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut. In 1986, he earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from New York University. Soros started his career at his father’s company, Soros Fund Management.
His first job at the business was short-lived, and he went on to work for a number of other companies, including the German bank Schröder, Münchmeyer, Hengst & Co. In 1994, he returned to his father’s business.
In the year 2000, George Soros announced that he would be limiting his participation in his company and appointed Robert Soros as interim CEO. In October 2001, William Stack was named CEO of Soros Fund Management, following Robert Soros, who was promoted to vice-chairman.
Soros was designated chief investment officer (CIO) and vice-chairman of the business, which handled $12.8 billion in assets at the time of 2004. Soros oversaw the Quantum Endowment Fund, an investment portfolio with a total value of $8.3 billion. He served as CIO for two years while continuing to invest and trade stocks, bonds, currencies, and commodities on a personal level. In 2012, Soros stepped down as a trader for the business, although he remained to handle his own interests.
When Soros stepped down as deputy chairman and president of Soros Fund Management in June 2017 to create Soros Capital Management, the firm had $26 billion in assets under management. His company was a significant sponsor of Paidy, a Japanese deferred online payment business that was bought by PayPal in 2021 for $2.7 billion.
