Melvin Townsend III is the flight passenger punched by Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson and another passenger on their JetBlue flight had an altercation recently, and new details have emerged.
According to TMZ, Melvin Townsend III, the 36-year-old guy Tyson hit on the plane, has a lengthy criminal history. Townsend was found guilty of fraud, grand theft, burglary, drug possession, and trafficking in stolen items.
Melvin has a long history of criminal activity. He had previously been convicted of fraud, grand theft, burglary, drug possession, and trafficking of stolen goods.
In 2018, Melvin broke into a house and stole a trailer, which he attached to his pickup. He’s also been charged with having oxycodone on his person. Official papers do not offer any further information, but he did do time in prison twice, for 20 months and 15 months, respectively.
Tyson was seen on camera punching Townsend in the head many times after harassing the former heavyweight champion. On their journey from San Francisco to Miami on Wednesday, Townsend was seated behind Tyson. Townsend is heard constantly saying Tyson’s name in an attempt to gain his attention in the video.
Tyson, 55, claims Townsend hurled a water bottle at the boxer-turned-cannabis entrepreneur, escalating the situation. Tyson eventually snapped and attacked Townsend repeatedly, leaving him battered and bloodied. Law officers brought both guys off the plane and met them.
When Townsend stated that he would not be filing charges, he and Tyson were freed. Tyson ultimately made it to Miami for a grandiose marijuana conference, and he was all smiles when spotted smoking later that day.
According to witnesses, Tyson was first unconcerned about all of his admirers on the airplane asking for photographs. He complied and even snapped photographs with them.
Melvin Townsend III is in his 30s.
