Later, on March 11th, 2016, Whitmer was unanimously selected to serve the remaining six months of the term of outgoing Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III by the judges of Michigan’s 30th Judicial Circuit Court.
Stuart Dunnings III was arrested on March 14, 2016, and he was charged with 11 counts of involvement with a prostitute and four counts of willful neglect of duty. In her six months serving, she issued an 11-page report on whether Dunnings’s alleged criminal activity had affected cases handled by the office but her term expired on December 31, 2016.
Whitmer than announced that she will run for 2018 Michigan gubernatorial race against Republican Bill Schuette and she defeated Schuette in the November 6 election by nearly a 10-point margin. In 2016, Donald Trump was Michigan by fewer than 11,000 votes and received a total of 2,279,543 votes from Michiganders and on another hand, Whitmer received only 13,000 fewer votes than Trump in her 2018 gubernatorial election.
