Denise Johnson was 56 years old singer passed away, she was the best know for her vocals on Screamadelica. Her death was confirmed by a friend of Denise on Twitter but no cause of death has been shared.
Recently, she was preparing to release her debut acoustic solo album ‘Where Does It Go’ on September 25th but unfortunately, she passed away at the age of 55.
musician Rowetta paid tribute to Johnson on Twitter. “I have so many great memories of Denise from when we were young,” she wrote. “We just used to sing & laugh like naughty schoolgirls all the time.” Rowetta described Johnson’s death as “a great loss to Manchester and music”.

She grew up in a household filled with reggae and ska music, her mother was Jamaican and there is not much information about her father.
While growing up she was interested in music and sang often as a child and started singing professionally in a covers band in the mid-80s, joining soul group Fifth of Heaven later in the decade.
She shot to fame for her vocal appearances on Primal Scream’s 1991 album Screamadelica. Furthermore, her vocals featured on two of Primal Scream’s most famous songs, Loaded and Don’t Fight It, Feel It.
From 1990 to 1995, Denise performed with the band and was also a noted guest vocalist on releases by the post-punk group.
Moreover, she began her professional career in a covers band, before joining US soul group Maze during their UK tour in the late Eighties. On September 25th, 2020, she was set to release her debut acoustic solo album ‘Where Does It Go’ and the album consists of covers of Manchester bands including The Smiths‘ ‘Well I Wonder’ and New Order’s ‘True Faith’ as well as a number of her own original tracks.
